About Dr. Charlotte Joseph


Dr. Charlotte Jane Joseph is a Consultant General and Developmental Paediatrician with over two decades of experience in child health, specialising in neurodevelopmental and neurodisability care. She is currently based at KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, where she provides comprehensive care for children with developmental concerns. Her clinical expertise includes autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, global developmental delay, learning difficulties, behavioural concerns, and a wide range of neurodisabilities

Dr. Charlotte is internationally trained, holding a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Kasturba Medical College, India, and Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH, UK). She completed her Fellowship in Developmental Paediatrics under the Ministry of Health Malaysia, with clinical attachments at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM) and a subspecialty fellowship with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), UK.

She further advanced her knowledge with a Diploma in Paediatric Neurodisability (UK), graduating with Distinction and receiving the esteemed Sir David Hall Prize awarded by the Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and the British Academy for Childhood Disability (BACD). She also holds a Professional Diploma in UK Medical Practice (DipUKMP) and has recently completed a Certificate in Paediatric Bioethics from Children’s Mercy Bioethics Center in Kansas City, USA.

Dr. Charlotte takes a holistic and family-centred approach to developmental care, working closely with families, educators, therapists, and healthcare professionals. She offers thorough developmental assessments, second opinions, and management plans tailored to the unique needs of each child. She is a certified provider of the UCLA PEERS® Program for social skills and is trained in gold-standard diagnostic tools such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, and Griffiths III Developmental Scales.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Charlotte is actively involved in academic research, teaching, and clinical ethics. She has presented her research at national and international platforms including King’s College London, the British Association for Community Child Health (BACCH), and the Malaysian Paediatric Association. Most recently, she was invited to speak at the Nepal Bioethics Conference, where she shared insights on ethical approaches in paediatric research involving children and minors. Her broader academic interests include autism diagnosis, sleep disorders in children with developmental conditions, educational health plans, and parental stress in families of neurodivergent children. She is also involved in ethics and research governance within the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

Dr. Charlotte is a passionate advocate for neurodiversity and inclusive care, with regular invitations to speak at conferences, medical forums, and public health events. She collaborates closely with the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), Persatuan Dyslexia Malaysia, and Kiwanis Malaysia, contributing her clinical insights to raise awareness and support for children with developmental differences. Through her professional and public-facing work, she remains committed to improving awareness, early diagnosis, and access to services for children with developmental and learning needs across Malaysia.
